What is it about?
This review reunites the evidence of the topical application of ascorbic acid and some of its stabilized derivatives, presenting the main studies in the literature, their advantages, disadvantages, and biases. Additionally, it brings highlights the difference between in vitro and in vivo clinical assessments and their importance when evaluating the clinical efficacy of an active ingredient.

Why is it important?
This work is important because it brings together information about clinical studies carried out with vitamin C derivatives that are already on the cosmetic market, but little is known about their dermatological efficacy and little is disclosed about their mechanisms of action since there are not many studies focused on this goal.
Perspectives
I believe that this review can provide information regarding the parameters that must be evaluated when developing a clinical test, especially in vivo, so that it is possible to obtain accurate and relevant data.
