What is it about?

This article presents a unique study that focuses on analyzing social and demographic variables in relation to prosocial tendencies towards the LGBTQIA+ community. The phenomenon of discrimination against minority groups in society is represented in a number of research studies. However, little is known about how prosocial people are towards the LGBTQIA+ community.

Why is it important?

We examined prosocial tendencies towards the LGBTQIA+ community in the context of basic social and demographic characteristics (such as sex, residency, or experience with LGBTQIA+ person). It is necessary to examine attitudes not only in terms of the negative, but also in terms of the positive (or positive attitudes). Some of the most significant findings are that 1) women report higher levels of public prosociality (both public and digital) compared to men, or that 2) people in the context of residency (rural vs. urban) differ only in terms of public prosociality.

Perspectives

We believe that this article will encourage other researchers or research teams to pursue this area more extensively so that cross-cultural studies can be collated. In the face of the attacks that have taken place on the LGBTQIA+ community in the Slovak Republic, we believe that the results of our study will serve as a high-quality and positive basis for the fact that the study of positive attitudes in society has its great importance and, above all, its place in the scientific community.
