What is it about?

The solid particles in high-salinity oilfield wastewater was characterized. PAC and polymer flocculants were used to improve settling and removal of solid particles to meet wastewater reinjection quality. The effect of calcium ion on flocculation performance of polymer flocculants was discussed.

Why is it important?

The suspended solids contained mainly corrosion products(i.e. , iron oxides). Polymer flocculants played an important role in enlarging the particles size. Compared to anionic polyacrylamide, the adverse effect of calcium ion on cationic polyacrylamide performance was lower.
