What is it about?

This article compares the few well-known equations to predict the minimum/critical velocity for sediment/sand particle to move. We found that sediment deposition thickness has effect on the accuracy of these equations. Hence we proposed a new equation by incorporating the effect of sediment bed thickness.

Why is it important?

The understanding of the influence of sediment bed thickness on the minimum velocity to move sediment particle is lacking in the literature. This article proved that existing equation that exclude sediment bed thickness were not accurate when used to predict minimum velocity for thick sediment thickness.

Perspectives

This is the first paper published from my PhD work. It leads to my future work in trying to understand the characteristics and behavior of flow due to the existence of sediment bed with various thickness.
