What is it about?
Conceptual models and data-driven models have been used for rainfall-runoff modelling. This paper investigates the performance of the GR4J daily lumped conceptual model and wavelet-based artificial neural network model (WANN) by using the different input combinations.

Why is it important?
Performance of conceptual and data-driven models is generally compared with the models which are in their categories. In this paper, a wavelet-based data-driven model was used and the performance of this model was compared with a conceptual model (GR4J) model. In addition, it is also shown that the selection of input combinations affect the model performance.
Perspectives
This study is important with regard to observe the performance of conceptual and data-driven models for daily rainfall-runoff modelling. Furthermore, this paper indicates how the selection of input variables has a significant impact on model performance.
