What is it about?
By this research, we have shown that the allelopathic activity of macrophytes could be used in the biocontrol of cyanobacterial toxic blooms.

Why is it important?
The studied macrophytes species were selected because of their biogeographic and ecological profile (mediterranean endemic macrophytes) and dominates in a small lake where the Microcystis bloom has not been observed.
Perspectives
The first results of this article are promising and encourage us to asses the inhibitory effect of other macrophytes, identify allelopathic compounds and better understand the physiological and biochemical mechanisms involved in this biocontrol. I hope you find this article interesting.
