What is it about?
This study focuses on improving how a blood pressure medication called nisoldipine is delivered in the body. Nisoldipine is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure), but it has very poor water solubility, which makes it difficult for the body to absorb it effectively. This can lead to inconsistent drug levels and the need for frequent dosing. To address this issue, the researchers developed extended-release tablets that slowly release the drug over time. These tablets were prepared using different formulation techniques and tested for their physical properties, stability, and drug release behavior. The results showed that the optimized formulation was able to release the drug steadily over 24 hours, maintaining consistent levels in the body. As shown in the dissolution data (Table on page 6), some formulations achieved nearly complete drug release (~100%) within 24 hours, indicating effective controlled delivery. The study also confirmed that the drug was compatible with the ingredients used in the formulation and remained stable under testing conditions.
