What is it about?

In this study, we aimed to determine the awareness of non-cardiac Lebanese hospitalized patients for their coronary artery disease risk factors, their level of adherence to medications or lifestyle modifications, and assess factors associated with awareness.

Why is it important?

The national representative data on the epidemiology of coronary heart disease are lacking in many Arab countries, in Africa and the Middle East, and particularly in Lebanon. Only simple studies assessing Lebanese awareness of one risk factor for cardiovascular disease are available in the literature. None of them estimated the level of awareness of risk factors for coronary heart disease in non-cardiac hospitalized patients. Such knowledge is crucial for patients to understand the threats associated with cardiovascular disease and the goals of therapy.

Perspectives

I hope this article increase the level of awareness among people, whether hospitalized or not, for the risk factors of cardiovascular disease (hypertension, diabetes, obesity, dyslipidemia) and to change their lifestyle and level of adherence to drug treatments.
