E-cigarettes show some potential for assisting smokers to quit

E-cigarettes are controversial 'disruptive' products that raise many questions about effectiveness, safety and risk at both individual and population levels. There is now mounting evidence they can assist some smokers to quit or cut down smoking tobacco. They are almost certainly safer than tobacco cigarettes but are not risk-free, so present challenges to regulators and health care providers.
