Why is it important?

Dropout from treatment and peer oriented interventions is a significant problem in the substance abuse field. This paper is one of very few to examine reasons for dropping out and factors the enhance motivation.

Perspectives

Services that address ongoing recovery in the community after treatment or as an alternative to treatment are increasingly recognized as important. Sober living houses are good example of such services and excellent outcomes have been documented. However, we need more information about factors associated with outcome, such as retention in the houses.
