What is it about?

Leptospirosis is a zoonotic disease that is endemic in most Caribbean countries. This study examined the clinical presentations and laboratory findings in serologically confirmed cases of leptospirosis in Jamaica between June 2005 and May 2006.

Why is it important?

Our findings show that there are variable clinical manifestations of leptospirosis. The study emphasizes the importance of continued vigilance of physicians and primary health care workers in increasing the awareness of the seasonal distribution and the need for early diagnosis of leptospirosis.

Perspectives

This paper highlights the various ways that persons with leptospirosis can present and highlight the need for thorough investigation of all suspected cases.
