What is it about?

This is the first article on the Healthy Weights Initiative - an evidence-based, multidisciplinary, community-based, obesity reduction program offered at no cost to participants. We review the early results and determine independent risk factors for not completing the program.

Why is it important?

It is difficult to lose weight and keep it off. Adhering to an evidence-based program would help, but how do you improve adherence? The Healthy Weights Initiative engaged in large and broad community consultation before it even began, which helped grow its success. It also promotes strong social support, which was found to be important for completing the program.

Perspectives

Excited to be part of the paper, as the program is very promising. It has been successful in the community and there have been some really positive results to date. I am looking forward to contributing to more literature from the data on this program.
