What is it about?

Serum VEGF level may be a good reflector of tumor burden. But studies about its predictive value in NSCLC showed inconsistant results. We performed our examination using Luminex multiplex assay to further identify its role as a predictive and prognostic biomarker for the efficacy of platinum-based chemotherapy in NSCLC.

Why is it important?

We found that pretreatment serum VEGF levels may be a potential prognostic biomarker for the anti-tumor effcacy of platinum-based chemotherapy in terms of PFS. However, VEGF may not be a useful marker to anticipate the response to chemotherapy in patients with advanced NSCLC.

Perspectives

Serum VEGF is a very important marker for us to evaluate chemotherapy response and anticipate the prognosis of a patient.Further study may help us recognize its true significance.
