What is it about?
Exfoliation syndrome is often associated with very high intraocular pressure which can be very difficult to control, greater visual loss and cataract surgery in these patients is associated with increased risk of complications. This condition was initially thought to be rare among Africans but this work have shown that it is present in Northern Nigeria.

Why is it important?
We have been able to establish that exfoliation syndrome exist in Northern Nigeria. This study also provides relevant information and baseline knowledge about the condition in this geographical region of Nigeria.
Perspectives
This publication touches on an aspect of eye conditions that is sometimes underrated but very important. I was privileged to work with authors with vast knowledge about this syndrome and I wish that more eye professionals take out time to examine patients for it.
