What is it about?

Chronic organophosphate (OP)-induced neuropsychiatric disorder is a rare condition following prolonged exposure to OP compounds. A young male was exposed with organophosphate compound when attempting suicide. Fortunately, he was immediately taken to hospital in a state of unconsciousness and kept in a mechanical ventilator. Later he developed some neuropsychiatric behavioral problems such as mood swing, irritability, fatigability, suicidal thinking, and features of anxiety etc. Patient was on antipsychotic and antidepressant medication and showed improvement. As there is no valid tool and diagnostic criteria for the diagnosis of this condition, there is always chance of misdiagnosis of this type of case resulting increase mortality.
