What is it about?

Child sexual abuse and sexual dating violence victimization are common problems that are known to have long-term negative consequences.This study aimed to compare the sociodemographic, abuse-related, and clinical features of female adolescents who were sexually abused by different perpetrators, and identify the factors associated with suicidality and nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI) in these cases.

Why is it important?

Although the literature contains numerous studies on the negative effects of sexual abuse, the current study, to the best of our knowledge, is the first one to have compared the sexual dating violence victims with incest and other CSA cases. The present study reveals that being a victim of dating violence is associated with higher odds of attempted suicide and suicidal ideation.
