Gouty arthritis is a common problem among middle-aged men. The prevalence of gout also increases among postmenopausal women with diuretic-treated hypertension and renal insufficiency. Therefore, it is important to understand how to treat gout effectively with fewer complications.

Why is it important?

Through a systematic approach, we gathered relevant evidence on this topic. Then, we successfully indentified that etoricoxib and indometacin have similar effects on pain relief. However, etoricoxib has a signifcantly lower risk of adverse events than does indometacin, especially digestive system-related adverse events.

Perspectives

Etoricoxib is a good choice for gouty arthritis in clinical practice.
