What is it about?
Basically, the use of low levels of electric current in acupuncture sites reduces pain related behaviors in rats (scratching, reduced grooming, etc) and also increases their ability to remember using a Morris water maze test.

Patients with chronic pain often relate that they cannot focus or retain memories to the same level they did prior to the onset of the pain.
Perspectives
This is critically important for pain patients to have a non-opiate method of reducing pain and increasing their ability to interact with their environment (think of families, work and other types of psycho-social interactions).
