What is it about?

Cerebral palsy is one of the most common childhood disorders occuring due to damage to the . It is caused due to damage to the brain before or at the time of birth. Conventionally available treatments for CP are mainly targeted toward management of its symptoms. However, none of them address the damage at the cellular level. With the upcoming neurorestorative strategies such as drugs and stem cells we are now able to repair the core brain damage in CP. We have reviewed different medicines and cell types such as autologous bone marrow stem cells, umbilical cord stem cells, neural stem cells, and olfactory ensheathing cells which may be beneficial for treatment of CP.

Why is it important?

Untill now, cerebral palsy was considered as an incurable disorder. However, advent of neurorestorative techniques such as stem cell therapy has provided great promise as a potential treatment strategy for CP.
