What is it about?

Endometrial sampling is the most common investigation in women with abnormal uterine bleeding. The disadvantage of endometrial sampling relates to the small volume of endometrial tissue obtained. This paper examines rate and risk factors of inadequate endometrial tissue for evaluation from pathologist.

Why is it important?

We review all endometrial specimen for determine inadequate specimen. Our findings show that nearly thirty percentage of women who underwent endometrial sampling had inadequate endometrial specimen for interpretation. In addition, menopausal women and women with thin endometrium from trans-vaginal ultrasound were associated with inadequate specimens.

Perspectives

Inadequate endometrial specimens are the common problem that found in women underwent endometrial sampling. Women in this group had pain during procedure, anxiety, and required further procedures for diagnosed her abnormal symptoms. This article provides some information about women in whom endometrial sampling may yield insufficient tissue and for whom other endometrial evaluation procedures would be more suitable.
