What is it about?

We have utilized cells to transport magnetic nanoparticles into pancreatic tumors in a mouse model. A/C Magnetic Hyperthermia treatment was able to prolong the life of the animals by 32%.

Why is it important?

This is, to be best of our knowledge, the first time that the power of combined cell-delivered nanotherapy and hyperthermia (heat treatment) for treating pancreatic cancer has been demonstrated.

Perspectives

The Troyer and Bossmann groups at Kansas State University are developing cell-mediated therapies for tumors and infectious diseases. The work published here is regarded by the researchers at Kansas State as a breakthrough in delivering nanoparticles in a disseminated pancreatic tumor model in an immunocompetent mouse model.
