What is it about?

This research involves a novel drug delivery technique where the drug carrying nanoparticles show duel targeting first by getting attracted towards the site of tumor by applying magnetic field and then the particles are taken up selectively by SR-B1 receptors that are over expressed by most malignant cells.

Why is it important?

This technique will minimize the spread of drug through out the body thereby keep the drug in the area where it is most needed. This strategy has multiple benefits. Much less drug is required that will cut the cost. Most importantly, it will protect the normal body cells; thus will reduce the harmful, undesirable side effects of chemotherapy.

Perspectives

We strongly believe that the magnetically guided rHDL nanoparticles carrying drugs is the next generation therapeutics. Especially the tumors which are localized and not yet metastasized can be controlled with this novel technique. Patients with prostate, breast, ovarian and many other cancers could be benefited with this novel drug delivery technology.
