What is it about?
we investigated causes of patient deterioration soon after being admitted to the hospital (within 48 hours)

Why is it important?
If we understand why people get worse so early on, we can hopefully prevent it
Perspectives
we found that very few patients actually deteriorate so early after being admitted to a hospital, it is very hard to tell who was going to deteriorate, we also found that most people deteriorate because their disease gets worse even though they were appropriately treated, we found that goals of care are not discussed enough, we also found that medical error does play a role, but in only 15 % of these patients
