What is it about?

Certain regions of gene is known for mutation in rifampicin resistance. When patients are not responding to treatment with riifampicin and M. leprae is not showing mutation in known areas of genetic mutation then whole genome sequencing revealed mutation in other areas of M. leprae gene which was then correlated with resistance in patient.

Why is it important?

When known regions of gene is not showing any mutation then other areas should be looked into to correlate with drug resistance cases.

Perspectives

For the first time M. leprae drug resistance to rifampicin in leprosy cases has been correlated with mutation in other regions of gene and not rpoB gene
