Antiretroviral therapy (ART) restores immune function and reduces HIV-related adverse outcomes. This paper aims to determine the prevalence of first-line ART failure and to identify those risk factors that contribute to treatment failure.

Why is it important?
Our study showed that treatment failure was most likely to occur for patients who had poor drug adherence and those who were delayed to start ART till their CD4 cell count became very low (<100 cells/mm3).
Perspectives
I hope this artice brings a great value in the treatment strategies of HIV and improving the life expectancy of HIV patients. This article has tried to identify the major contributing factors for ART failure and thus decreased treatment outcome which brings up an opportunity to tackle those factors and thereby achieve the target outcome.
