Why is it important?
This study help to understand the disease burden of COPD. In addition, the trend of pharmacologic management and the utilization of health care resource might provide clues to improve the treatment of COPD.
Perspectives
From 2004 to 2010, the annual average hospitalization and ICU admission in COPD patients were both decreased. This phenomenon resulted in the decrease of the average total medical cost per COPD patients, despite the increased outpatient visit cost due to increased utilization of LAMA and ICS/LABA. The increased utilization of LAMA and ICS/LABA might have contribute to the decreased average hospitalization and ICU admission.
