What is it about?

Graves' disease (GD) does not increase the risk of thyroid carcinoma. Preventing malignancy should not be the reason for introducing surgical treatment of GD.

Why is it important?

The argument has never ended about how autoimmune thyroid diseases such as Hashimoto thyroiditis and Graves' disease (GD) contribute to the thyroid malignancy. The current study denied the hypothesis of GD as a risk factor for thyroid cancer by systematically collecting the available evidence. As a result, surgery should not be the reason for introducing surgical treatment of hyperthyroidism caused by GD.
