Perspectives
Most prostate cancer patients treated with radiation therapy live for many years after treatment. Thus, strategies to minimize the risk of long term side effects from treatment are becoming increasingly important. The rectum is the major dose limiting organ in the pelvis. This article presents a comprehensive review of current approaches to reduce the risk of rectal injury with radiation, as well as approaches to managing this problem should it develop.
