Endothelial dysfunction is involved in the pathogenesis of cerebral small vessel disease, however, it is not clear if specific biomarkers related to endothelial function are associated with radiological progression of small vessel disease.

Our data supports the concept that endothelial dysfunction modulates the radiological progression of small vessel disease and white matter lesions and lacunes are associated with different inflammatory markers.

Perspectives

Stroke biomarkers could be used as a guiding tool for more effective personalized therapy.
