What is it about?

It remains unsettled questions what is the difference between invaded (responders) and non-invaded cells (non-responders) against invasion-inducible stimuli. However, none of cancer invasion models can capture separately invaded and non-invaded cells at the end of experiments as living cells.

Why is it important?

We developed a novel invasion assay that enables to catch and analyze both invaded and non-invaded cells separately. The apparatus had two gel layers separated by a nylon mesh membrane with 40-µm2 pores that were large enough to allow passage of invading cells. For instance, cell invasion from Matrigel to collagen gel can be analyzed.

Perspectives

Invasive and non-invasive cell populations can be further enriched by repeating the iCT assay and may be used for transcriptome, proteome, and genome analyses.
