When we see democracy and women in Indian politics, we must liberate "politics" from its narrow sense, which is restricted merely to party politics and elections. The political is a space of freedom and public deliberation on the one hand and a space of power, conflict, and antagonism on the other. Even so, space is the ultimate location and medium of conflict, and hence a critical issue in politics.
