What is it about?

This study looks at what makes customers in Addis Ababa use digital banking services. It found that people are more likely to use digital banking when they see clear benefits, enjoy using it, have good access to technology, and have developed the habit of using it. Factors like ease of use, social influence, and cost were less important. The research shows that digital banking can help Ethiopia move toward a cash‑lite economy by reducing reliance on physical money.

Why is it important?

The study is important because Ethiopia’s digital economy is still growing, and understanding what drives people to use digital banking helps banks and policymakers design better strategies. It’s unique because it uses real data from Addis Ababa and applies the UTAUT2 model to show how customer behavior supports the country’s transition to a cash‑lite economy.

Perspectives

From my perspective, this research highlights how technology and customer experience can shape the future of finance in Ethiopia. It shows that when digital banking becomes enjoyable, reliable, and part of daily habits, people naturally move away from cash. This insight can inspire both banks and regulators to make digital finance more accessible and trusted across the country.
