What is it about?

Based on a two-stage survey, a profile of a “fearful reader” emerges. We are not talking about the asocialization of reading, since, according to the presumption, reading is asocial. It's about the impact of physical distancing and social isolation amid the coronavirus pandemic on the vital act of reading.

Why is it important?

The author proposes an urgent rethink of media literacy in three areas: 1. Hygiene of trust: cultivating mistrust. 2. Know yourself. 3. Self-monitoring of the use of digital devices.

Perspectives

The problem with reading today is that it is discredited as an unhealthy process. If fear of a pandemic is treated by not reading, illiteracy will become the norm.
