What is it about?

Investigation into the role of learning dispositif (system) and emotional attachment for university and informal online learning. A draft framework generated a questionniare to obtain views of 150 global end-users (instructors and learners) on emotions and learning. Statistical analysis and subsequent expert interveiws suggested that, while dispositif was critical to learning experiece, the role of emotions was relatively weak but varied during learning journey.

Why is it important?

Billions are spent to upgrade online learning systes with often only cursory thought about the role of emotions to engage students for learning success. The paper also provides a useful application of statistical methods in mixed methods research.

The research demonstrates the need for good research design, backed-up by the litterature to focus on the research questions. The research demonstrates the limitations of statistical analysis and benefits of mixed methods research for a complete answer.
