Why is it important?
In a culture like Nigeria, where there is little or no reading culture, the study shows parents, teachers and school administrators that reading for pleasure could positively influence reading comprehension. Therefore, it might encourage students to read more, parents to provide recreational reading materials to their children and for school administrators to equip libraries with interesting books
Perspectives
The internet provides second language learners of English alternative access to entertainment. Yet, reading, whether of print or digital materials for fun can equip learners with critical and creative literacy skills that could be transferred to effective reading comprehension performance.
