What is it about?

The study illustrates the fate of the Kitans of China under Mongol rule as a case study to the transformation of identity and ethnicity of the steppe people under nomadic rule. It argues that Mongol policies were the main reason for the fading of the Kitan ethnic identity that existed for nearly a milenium.
