This study examines why people in Addis Ababa use digital banking services, focusing on the key factors that influence actual usage. It explores the role of infrastructure readiness, service affordability, perceived usefulness, and social influence in encouraging digital banking adoption, while also assessing whether ease of use remains a barrier. By identifying the most important drivers of digital banking utilization, the study provides insights to help banks and policymakers promote digital financial services and support the transition toward a cash-lite urban economy.

This study is important because understanding what drives digital banking use helps banks and policymakers design services that better match users’ needs. By identifying infrastructure readiness and affordability as key factors, the findings highlight where investments and policy efforts should be focused to expand digital banking.
