What is it about?
Thrombosed external hemorrhoids (TEH) are associated with severe pain syndrome and are standardly treated with surgical intervention which usually requires anesthesia, a high duration of hospital stay and a long postoperative care plus it can be followed with some severe complications. This paper is describing a novel approach to treat TEH using non surgical, non ablative laser therapy with ErYAG and NdYAG lasers.

Why is it important?
Our results showed that a single procedure of a non-ablative erbium and neodymium lasers effectively alleviates pain syndrome and promotes rapid symptoms regression. No complications or symptom deterioration were observed. No patients were with recurrence of hemorrhoids for six months follow up.
Perspectives
We believe this novel method of treatment of thrombosed external hemorrhoids could become the method of choice for this difficult indication. I hope this paper will motivate some of the investigators to try this novel approach and help us build up more clinical evidence for further confirmation of its efficacy and safety.
