What is it about?
Reading habits of the digital press are different in Spain and Portugal, due to various contextual questions that have become evident in the studies of reading habits developed in both countries. This article includes the results of two discussion groups on the subject of online newspaper reading habits, conducted withSpanish and Portuguese Information Science undergraduates. The focus group technique was used to observe the process of reading the same newspaper both in print and digital format. For decoding in the digital format, the following devices were used: laptop, mobile phone, iPad and e-reader. The results will give us an insight into the reading habits of Information Science undergraduates in Spain and Portugal, including the similarities and differences between them.It is verified that the e-reader is still a device little used among Portuguese students and that social networks are an increasingly important means of access to the digital press for the two groups studied.

Why is it important?
The sample object of study is made up of future information professionals in both countries Spain and Portugal. They can provide relevant results for the authors, also teachers, regarding the needs and abilities in the reading process and information management. This can be expansible to other centers and fields.
Perspectives
In this publication, the results of the two focus groups developed in Spain and Portugal for freshmen Information Science students are included. In the case of Spain, it was done in the Universidad Europea de Madrid in the frame of 'Semana de la Ciencia' of the Fundación I+D in Madrid. In the case of Portugal it took place in the School of Humanities in the frame of the project 'Nuevas formas de lectura de prensa digital en Portugal' developed during a postdoctoral stay, thanks to a scholarship “Becas Iberoamérica Santander Investigación.
