Why is it important?

This chapter is important because it shows how Chinese filmmakers integrate the streets and buildings of Beijing into their films as a central part of the lives of their characters. The city reflects Chinese culture, and by looking at two films from different decades, we show how the physical nature of Beijing impacts on people's (character's) lives.
