What is it about?

The purpose of this literature review is to look at compassion fatigue (CF) in nursing within the hospital setting, the effects it is having on the nursing profession, and the studies currently being done to prevent and treat CF. This article will review the common misunderstandings and misdiagnoses nurses have with CF. The literature reviewed shows the current emphasis on short-term solutions with a gap being noted in the literature as to how to properly address long-term CF and how healthcare organizations and individuals can decrease the prevalence and treat CF in the future using policy changes, education, and mentorship.
