What is it about?

This case study at Brescia University College (London, Canada) investigates the experiences of faculty members who, for the most part, had never taught online prior to March 2020. It explores faculty members’ conceptualization of their instructional role when teaching online.

Why is it important?

The findings show that there are several aspects of online teaching not considered in the Community of Inquiry model of online teaching and that the COI evolves over time from pre-active to active to post-active phases of teaching.

Perspectives

Teaching online is more complicated that we understand and much of the online teaching process is hidden from students. I hope that this article enhances our understanding of the role that personal relationship plays in online instruction.
