What is it about?

This study looks at teaching Introduction to Politics to Generation Z students and whether students are optimistic or pessimistic about the future and whether teaching should encourage optimism or pessimism.

Why is it important?

This is an important pedagogical topic in today's world of political polarization. Faculty have to consider the impact of their teaching on how students view the future. Too much optimism can lead students to not understand the barriers to change. But too much pessimism can lead students to become apathetic or cynical.

Perspectives

This article was co-authored with a doctoral student and three honors students. It was a great mix of authors.
