Why is it important?

The importance for this study is based on the fact that the repositioning empty reefer containers are one of the most important issues in the shipping, port and terminal industry, as repositioning empty reefer containers not only has an economic effect on stakeholders in the cold supply chain, as well as the impact on sustainability in society.

Perspectives

This paper shows with quantitative data what are the tendencies of the repositioning empty reefer containers in Brazil. These study results indicate that there is a lack of data about an empty reefer container because in order to minimize empty repositioning costs, container operators may use reefer containers in a non-operating mode to carry approved dry cargo on a return.
