What is it about?
Rainfed farming is expected to expand in the near future due to water shortage problems. Using meteorological and soil moisture measurements at a Rainfed farming site in northern Iraq, a Rainfed farming guide for the area is proposed for more successful Rainfed farming venture.

Why is it important?
Potential for irrigation agriculture in Iraq is reduced due to the water shortage problems. However, any substantial increase in Rainfed farming acreage in the country should be evaluated carefully due to the large variability in the year to year rainfall. This study is a step forward in this matter.
Perspectives
This was a pioneer project where professors, assistants and students were involved. They all enjoyed the field and lab works during the duration of the project.
