What is it about?

The study examines sociocultural disparities of fatal road accident among Texas residents. Most studies that have examined risk disparities among different groups have classified some minority groups as 'others' due to their small numbers. However, this groups are often ignored when developing specific strategies to target most at-risk population. As a result, the study included children and European spanish speakers to determine their risk level using odds ratios.

Why is it important?

The study is important because most able bodied men and women lost their lives through accident and leave family members, allies and countrymen in agony. Apart from the physical loss, their is economic impact of road accident. The study showed that minority immigrants may be at higher risk of accident in their new destination due to differential cultural orientation. This study is important for culturally specific public health intervention design targeting the most vulnerable subgroups based on people’s cultural orientation.
