We investigated what types of live and dead trees (i.e., snags) that White-headed Woodpeckers, Hairy Woodpeckers, and Northern Flickers use for excavating nest cavities in ponderosa pine forests.

This research broadens our understanding of how what substrates are used by woodpeckers for nesting and enable forest managers to better provide these substrates after timber harvest.
