What is it about?

This paper presents the main characteristics of electric vehicles (EV) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEV), the arrangement and energy demand of the electric drive system of this vehicle and the bidirectional dc/dc converters to the drive system, as well as to identify, to study and to show experimental results for an open loop prototype of 6 kW converter operating in continuous conduction mode.

Why is it important?

The converter can works as a step-up or step-down voltage, high power and presents the main characteristics of reduced current ripple, and reduced volume of the filters' capacitor.

Perspectives

Among the contributions of this paper, there is a review of key concepts related with this issue electric and hybrid cars, emphasizing the different technological possibilities, possible topologies and serving as a conceptual framework to interested parties. The practical results obtained confirm the specifications, limitations and expected theoretical operation.
