What is it about?

Determining the suitability of fabrics for specific end-uses requires subjecting them to actual use and care conditions, such as laundering. In 2018, Danquah assessed fabrics intended for Ghanaian basic school uniforms but did not arrive at a conclusive recommendation. A follow-up study by Monnie and Fianu in 2021 identified a suitable fabric; however, the effects of laundering were not considered. The current study re-evaluates the fabrics, incorporating washing to provide a more accurate assessment of their durability and overall suitability for use in basic school uniforms in Ghana.

Why is it important?

This study is important because it established a suitable fabric for Ghanaian basic school uniforms by evaluating its performance after laundering; an essential but previously overlooked factor. By simulating real-life use conditions, the study ensures that the selected fabric meets durability and quality standards. This contributes to more reliable, cost-effective uniforms for students and informs better practices in textile selection and uniform production.

Perspectives

The study is important because it identified a fabric suitable for school uniforms that withstands laundering. This has practical, economic, educational, and industrial benefits ensuring durability, reducing costs, supporting student well-being, and guiding quality production in the local textile industry.
