What is it about?
This article presents the management of acute hand injuries in a multidisciplinary hospital using the Hand Injury Scoring System (HISS) of Campbell and Kay. Each hand injury that presented to our hospital was scored according to HISS. Based on the score, the hand injuries were treated by different grades of specialist surgeons including General Surgeons and super-specialist Plastic Surgeons.

Why is it important?
It was important to develop a management plan for acute hand injuries that presented to our hospital because this would allow better use of doctors, staff and resources.
Perspectives
I think that this was a fairly good and honest attempt at creating a Management Protocol for acute hand injuries that present to the Accident and Emergency Departments of most tertiary care facilities.
